Summer Taylor Bio

Summer Taylor is a certified public accountant and business advisor with over 25 years of experience advising C-suite and boards on how to navigate complex financial reporting and risk management strategies, maintain regulatory compliance and achieve their financial goals. In her role as Managing Director at Deloitte, she provides auditing, financial reporting, accounting, advisory and consulting services to publicly traded and privately held retail and consumer products companies ranging in size from start up to $5B+ in revenues. Summer has served as an advisor on numerous IPOs, public & private debt offerings, M&A transactions and private equity transactions. In addition, she has direct experience guiding management through the complexities in U.S. GAAP, IFRS, and SEC reporting.  She is an expert in the retail and consumer industries.  She brings deep corporate governance experience through her work with corporate and not for profit boards, including audit committees, and is qualified to serve on audit committees as a financial expert.

Summer has held a number of leadership roles within Deloitte.  She is currently the Orange County (OC) talent leader for the Audit practice, responsible for performance management, development and deployment of ~200 professionals.  She also leads Deloitte’s Board Ready programming in OC, which provides education and networking opportunities to diverse board candidates. As a result, she is a sought-after resource on board governance. She was the start-up leader of Deloitte’s OC Accounting & Reporting Advisory practice, growing the practice 400% in the first two years to a long-term sustainable practice. During the adoption of the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act, she served as a subject matter expert on SOX & internal controls.  She has also served as the diversity & inclusion leader for Deloitte's OC office, responsible for designing programs that enhance employee engagement and connection.

Summer has held a number of board roles.  She currently serves as the Audit Committee Chair, and previously served as the Treasurer, of Think Together, a ~$190M not for profit focused on closing the achievement gap for ~200k school children throughout the State of California.  She has also served as a member of the California State University Fullerton (CSUF) CCRG advisory board, CalCPA Accounting Education Committee, Network of Executive Women Southern California chapter, co-chair of Octane’s Women on Boards Committee, and as President of the OC/LB CalCPA Chapter board.

Summer is an award winning CalCPA Education Foundation and AICPA instructor, offering a wide range of programs, workshops, and classes designed to help CPAs achieve the highest level of quality by helping participants understand and apply complex accounting and auditing guidance in a practical and fun way.  She is also a sought-after speaker where she has led educational sessions for the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and CSUF Center for Corporate Reporting & Governance (CCRG). 

Summer has been recognized by her peers and industry for her various contributions, including Deloitte’s Sense of Partnership award, CalCPA’s Award for Instructor Excellence and Outstanding Course Materials, and the Network of Executive Women’s Best of the Best award.

Summer received her bachelor’s degree in business economics from UCLA.  She is a member of the AICPA and CalCPA.  She is an enthusiastic home cook and world traveler.
