Dan Burke
Dan is a recognized industry leader and expert in cyber liability insurance. As National Cyber Practice Leader, Dan drives the strategy to continue to grow Woodruff Sawyer’s cyber business. He consults companies on understanding their cyber risk and how to mitigate that risk through cyber insurance. Under his watch, the Cyber Practice has been nominated as Cyber Broking Team of the Year by Advisen two years in a row. He has also led Woodruff Sawyer's designation as Champion for Cyber Security by the National Cybersecurity Alliance.
Before joining the firm in 2018, Dan served as cyber product head at Hiscox, Inc. where he managed the cyber insurance portfolio throughout the United States. He earned his bachelor's degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Brock Dahl
Brock is Counsel in Freshfields’ Washington, D.C. and Silicon Valley offices, where he focuses on guiding clients through complex cybersecurity, advanced technology development, data privacy and strategy, and regulatory issues.
Brock brings cutting-edge technology, cyber and data experience to Freshfields after spending several years with the National Security Agency (NSA) and earlier years in Silicon Valley. In his most recent position of Deputy General Counsel, Operations at the NSA, he advised the NSA’s leadership on how to achieve their mission objectives within the boundaries of state, federal, and international cyber, privacy, and national security laws. He has a deep understanding of advanced technologies and how to manage the legal and practical challenges that they raise and has been at the forefront of the government’s response to many of the most significant, global cyber incidents in recent years.
Prior to serving as counsel at the NSA, Brock practiced at international law firms, where he advised on data privacy, cybersecurity, government investigations and white-collar defense, and transactional issues. Brock also held several positions at the U.S. Department of Treasury, where he focused on economic crimes.
Brock has authored pieces and often speaks publicly on legal strategy regarding a variety of national security and cybersecurity topics. Particularly pertinent to the current data security landscape, Brock has written extensively on combatting organized criminality in liminal environments. He has also authored a fiction novel on pre-civil war Lebanon, titled The Third Force.
Patrick Hynes
Patrick Hynes is a Principal in the Consulting Services practice of Ernst & Young LLP. Patrick leads Ernst & Young’s Next Generation Security Operations & Response (NGSO) services for the west region of the US and is the national Cyber lead for assurance and attest shadow incident response. The NGSO team is dedicated to providing attack and penetration, incident response and threat detection and response services for EY clients. In his role Patrick is responsible for scoping and delivery of NGSO services.
With more than 20 years of information security and forensic investigation experience, Patrick is a frequent speaker to boards and at industry and professional conferences and events and is widely consulted and quoted in media (Orange County Register, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Irish Times, NPR, etc.). He has been integral in the development of EY’s cyber shadow methodology and has supported over 100 EY audit teams and audit clients in mapping the impact of cyber incidents to financial systems and overall control environments. Patrick also helped co-develop and teach EY’s popular “eXtreme Hacking – Defending your Site” class and was a contributing author to the joint EY / ISACA book “Responding to Targeted Cyberattacks”.
Patrick is a member of the University of Southern California Information Technology Program Advisory Board and holds memberships in the High Technology Crime Investigation Association, Information Systems Security Association, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and Information Systems Audit and Control Association.
Sharon Klein
Sharon advises businesses on assessing and mitigating risks related to the privacy and security of personal data, ownership, and commercialization of data artificial intelligence; planning, drafting, and implementing privacy, security, and data protection policies and “best practices”; compliance with global, federal, and state privacy and security laws, regulations, and rules; data governance; and breach response, crisis management, and remedies for non-compliance. She is certified as an information privacy professional by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Sharon has deep experience in negotiating and drafting complex technology and cloud transactions, licensing, and strategic IT and commercial agreements. She is active in many organizations involved in technology, data privacy and security, and health information. For example, Sharon is a member of a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services task force that is addressing aligning healthcare industry security approaches to responding to cybersecurity threats under the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015. She also is a commissioner of the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, a voluntary, self-governing standards development organization established to develop standard criteria and accredit organizations that electronically exchange health care data.
